I am finding this a very thought provoking book. The purpose of the book is to help the reader understand the differences between approaching God from a “modern” point of reference as opposed to a “post-modern” point of reference. It is hard for most of us, raised in the world view often labeled as “modern” to get outside that box.
McLaren does a pretty good job of helping me see the world from that other point of view. The method he uses is a to write a story – a novel. A pastor who is struggling with his life and ministry develops a friendship with his daughter’s high school chemistry teacher. In the conversations that flow from that friendship, the differences between these two world-views are contrasted.
