Wycliffes’ new website has more and better information about Bible translation that we could ever hope to duplicate here. You should visit. Just click here to open a new window and see what is on the Wycliffe website.
The site has great stories about Bible translation, about changed lives, about ways each of us can become involved. It helps me rebuild my vision – reset priorities.
I woke up this morning thinking about engagement. Not marriage engagement!
But kingdom of God engagement. I was mulling over (and praying), trying to understand what it takes to keep us, God’s people, engaged and focussed on the things that God has commissioned us to do.
If I were an officer in the army, the army would be concerned about my health. They’d be concerned that I had food to eat and shelter for my family. They’d even be concerned about my retirement. But none of those things would be the reason I was commissioned as an officer. I was commissioned to fulfill certain duties.
Wikipidea has a great definition: “Commissioned officers derive authority directly from a sovereign power and, as such, hold a commission charging them with the duties and responsibilities of a specific office or position. Commissioned officers are typically the only persons in a military environment able to exercise command (according to the most technical definition of the word) over a military unit.”
A sovereign power has commissioned us to spread the news of the Kingdom of God to the whole world, from our neighbors to the most remote corners of the world.
