I’m thinking…

Every once in a while (about three times every hour during longer teleconference meetings) my staff will say “David’s thinking”. This helps to explain the long pauses to the person on the other end of the phone.

And I am thinking!

The past ten days or so have been excellent thinking days. My schedule has been slow, so I’ve been able to chat with people and just think through things. How can we be more effective? Why do we do things the way we do? Have circumstances changed enough that we need to reconsider the “how do we…” questions that we asked when we set up our current procedures and systems?

For example, we have a great orientation program for new members. But we are praying hard that the Lord of the Harvest will send more laborers into the harvest. Yet if we have more laborers joining this harvest team, our great orientation program won’t be able to cope. So we are asking those “how do we…” questions again. The time is right in terms of our schedule. And God has been bringing some gifted people along to help us through that process.

It is fun to realize that I’m in the middle of what God is doing, that I must be asking the right questions because God is supplying people with answers – people who weren’t here even two months ago. It is fun, but it isn’t easy. Budget is extremely tight – which forces me to look to God for provision. And although we have temporary help we didn’t expect, I’d rather have long-term help. Maybe that is God again forcing me to rely on him for provision.

What circumstances is forcing faith in you?
