I’m thinking…

Friday, July 21st, 2006

Every once in a while (about three times every hour during longer teleconference meetings) my staff will say “David’s thinking”. This helps to explain the long pauses to the person on the other end of the phone.

And I am thinking!

The past ten days or so have been excellent thinking days. My schedule has been slow, so I’ve been able to chat with people and just think through things. How can we be more effective? Bible Literacy in America

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

BibleLiteracy is an organization that promotes the study of the Bible in American educational institutions. They document how important it is for a student to understand the Bible in order to understand western thought and literature. It is a very interesting approach to promoting Scripture use in our culture.
Sheila Weber, from BibleLiteracy.org, has an interesting, brief radio interview in which she discusses Bible literacy. Click on the appropriate file type to listen to the interview.

Busy, busy, busy!
Ruth and I had a wonderful two-week vacation with her side of the family. We drove to Michigan, and enjoyed the time alone on the road going and coming.

My days and many evenings have been taken up with thinking through and praying through ways in which we can be most effective in recruiting and retaining missionaries. This is the deadline month for our departmental budgets, so I’ve been focusing on cost-effectiveness and “return on investment” for mission dollars and labor. As I mentioned before, it is a worthwhile, though exhausting, effort.

And last week I had the wonderful opportunity to speak in a multicultural church here in Orlando. We spoke for about half an hour, telling stories about the impact that God’s Word has has in the lives of people around the world.
